The Renaissance Man and Intelligent Design: A proposal for Reconciliation--Part II
I concluded my previous article with the following:
"The evidence appears to be narrowing the gap between the sides of this issue. So perhaps the answer is to home school our kids. To do this, however, parents will have to educate themselves to the fundamentals of scienceas well as religion. What basic tenants of science would be most helpful for a spiritually oriented parent to know?

The Renaissance Man and Intelligent Design:A Reconciliation
Category: Religion and Philosophy
This article appeared today in "The American Chronicle"
For almost a century there has been a war between Creationism and Science, as those two ideas clash for control in the public educational system. There is a clear lack of true understanding, each side respectively, of the other. The recent introduction of Intelligent Design has served to bring this misunderstanding into sharper focus.

"I Say potatoes and You Say Potato's"
Category: Writing and Poetry
In a recent article in the London Suday Times online, editorialist John Humphreys writes a critique of David Crystal's book, "How Language Works." In this piece, Humphreys asserts something which has been long overdue--the abysmal state of language education of today's writers, so-called. Numerous inexcusable errors abound. Surprisingly, Crystal, who has a well-deserved reputation as a pedant of the English language, accepts and in places even endorses the slovenly use of our native tongue.
His comments really hit close to home. I'd like to share my comment to him:

You Have to Wonder
Category: News and Politics
You have to wonder....
Yesterday, there was a report of a strike on a village in Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border. Some 18 family members were killed. All of the neighbors denied knowing anything about insurgents in their midst, and our government countered feebly that they thought there might have been. Even the usually even-tempered and rational Sen. McCain went so far as to say , in effedt, that even if there were no insurgents (whatever that term is supposed to mean--Iraqis, I guess) he "would do it again," were it up to him.
Today, we are informed that we should believe that there were militants among the dead, even if there was no evidence of same.

Crack in the Mirror
The following is reprinted from "The American Chronicle."
By Moss David Posner December 14, 2005
Within the past day, here in California, as well as other states, we have witnessed the call for the demise of a man who has been the cause of the death of a number of innocent people. Under this person’s direct orders, these few deaths were followed by the rapid proliferation of other gang members and the development of an organized strike force of volunteers, and to a whole formal cadre of armed and organized killers. These people have been over the years in large part financed by drug sales and other constitutionally prohibited taxing schemes. Of course and ultimately, it is the public that ultimately pays for this all.

A Date with Destiny--Tookie Williams
Category: News and Politics
This is reprinted from an article which was published today in The American Chronicle:
A Date with Destiny--Tookie Williams
By the time you all read this, the fate of Tookie Williams will have been determined, to the extent to which the Governor' decision could alter what had been decided years ago. There is, of course, an intense barrage of emotion in the press. Almost all of this is in favor of of the commutation of the death sentence. There are those who favor execution of sentence, but those voices are few--publicly. I really can add nothing; but I'dlike to make a few observations and to ask a few questions:

Why I speak out—by Moss David Posner, M.D.
(This article is reprinted from "The American Chronicle" of this Oct. 16, 2005)
"...First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me...."
